Dapur Palembang

Out of the blue, suddenly I’m craving to eat pempek. I remembered there is a typical restaurant in Cikajang that specialized in Palembang cuisines. ‘Dapur Palembang’ serves a variety of Palembang cuisines, including the well known Pempek. However, the restaurant also championed some typical food such as Sup Pindang Ikan Patin, Brengkes Belida, Daging Malbi, Celimpungan, Laksan, Mie Celor, Model, Tekwan, Rujak Mie, etc. Assorted Palembang sweet cakes such as maksuba and srikaya are also available in this restaurant. When we arrived, the restaurant was still empty, but rumour said that the restaurant was usually packed during lunch hour by office workers around the area.

That night we ordered …
Assorted regular Pempek (26K) – consists of 5 pieces of pempek (adaan, lenjer, telor, pistel, and keriting). Regular means the pempek made of tenggiri fish. But if we choose ‘special’ means that the pempek made of belida fish (34k). Nice…

Mie celor (17.5 k) – thick yellow egg noodles drowned in gravy made of shrimp stock and light coconut milk. On top of it, the dish were sprinkled with bean sprouts, chopped shrimp, and half sliced boiled eggs. It was extremely delicious…the broth was tasty, the composition of shrimp broth and the coconut milk were in a right fit.

She is Danielle Steel, the well known romantic novelist. She reportedly owns at least 6,000 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes. WTH ???!!!! She was named as the “supertop” customer by the French shoe designer, Louboutin.

as quoted from the Vanity Fair issue …

Louboutin revealed she regularly flies from her home in the US to his stores in Paris to snap up the latest designs. Louboutin said: ‘She comes to Paris, and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, ‘I’m a little disappointed there’s nothing in the store,’ and walks out with 80 pairs. She is super.’

Cafe 5th Avenue

5th Avenue Café located at Grand Indonesia Entertainment District, Fl.3A. The Café attract the crowd attention because it displays a small window containing various types of beef steaks at affordable prices. The size of the café is not too large, designed with the feel of a modern city of New York. Walls are dominated by red and black colors and decorative lighting gives the impression of a romantic classic. The restaurant decor reminiscent of retro American diner in the era of the 1950s complete with ornate art deco paintings and photographs that give the feel of old school western accent.

That day was my dad’s birthday dinner, so the whole big family were there including all of my nephews. Imagining the teeny meeny children gathered in the same place, made me realize that I may have problems taking pictures of the food in peace, siiiggghhh….

5th Avenue Café offers a wide variety of Western cuisine, especially the European flavor. Among of all the food we have ordered, these are partly the appearance (did not manage to capture all the food we ordered) :

Nachos (69k) – comes with generous portion, although a bit lack on the chili beans, but it taste good though.

PEPeNERO CUCINA ITALIANA

In order to celebrate my birthday yesterday, hubby took me for a dinner at Pepenero. What is it with Italian restaurant and my hubby? Well…let’s just say, he had a weird unexplainable relationship with Italian food, he always craving for more :)

PEPeNERO is an Italian restaurant opened in the fall of 2004 in Indonesia with several locations spread around Jakarta and Bali. As stated in their website, they thrive as a simple Italian Trattorian in an effort to emulate the best of the great Italian tradition of hospitality and quality at the table and in the glass. PEPeNERO served a variety of Italian specialties ranging from pasta, pizza, and steak. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was somewhat dimly lit packed with comfy couch and chair as if to create an intimate and romantic ambiance. Read the rest of this entry

The Big 30

Today is my birthday and finally reaching the big 30 where one said that life begins at 30. I’m not usually sentimental about such things. Birthdays are just another day, rite? But as I look back and reminiscing the past, I stroked by how much my life has changed in the past year and how much I have to be grateful for. I have made it another year, thank God. The 30th birthday is special … one said that after 30, a body has a mind of its own.  I also spend some time thinking about what the next year might bring, with anticipation and a bit of deliberate planning or rather envisioning.

Another thing about birthday is the dreaded of…..getting older. Yup that’s rite ladies…birthdays becomes something that women tend not to speak about. They hint at age and aging is often seen as a weakness in the society. The aging process is somewhat wonderful – and obviously inevitable :) It’s time to say hello to anti aging cream and anti wrinkle eye cream, etc. LOL!!! But … I love being 30, I didn’t mourn the loss of my twenties. Because let’s face it…the 20s has been all about the drama, the heartbreak, learning the lesson the hard way, finding my true self, and defining what I really want in life. I am not saying that I regret it coz it’s simply a process of becoming what I am now. So ….enjoy life, welcoming the 30s with arms wide open, and just like Capt. Spock said… LIVE LONG AND PROSPER !!! Hahahahaha….

Kwetiaw Sapi A Ciap – Cikajang

Kwetiaw Sapi A Ciap has been long famous since its first branch opened in Mangga Besar. Dozens of reviews said customers were satisfied with their cooking. Pouring rain in Jakarta these days made us craving for hot soup dish.

A Ciap restaurant which located in Cikajang is a house that was transformed into a restaurant. So don’t be surprised when you walked into the restaurant, you will find lots of room and spaces, complete with some house interior such as display cabinet and wall paintings. All of that made the atmosphere feels warm and homey.

That night, I and hubby ordered “Bakmi Kuah Sapi” (28k) with warm hot tea (4k) as the drinks. One plate of noodle comes with lots and lots of beef slices and mustard greens. Steaming hot soup and the fragrant that comes from it made us cannot wait any longer to dig in.

Maaaakkkkknyooooossss…………….so delicious and tasty!!! The noodle textures were delicate, the soup was savory, and the beef were so tender. The broth was so beefy, can‘t say no more…this was the tastiest broth I’ve ever tasted. Fully recommended.

It is not just chicken, It’s BonChon Chicken

Entering Grand Indonesia with hungry stomach, I instantly visited the first restaurant that caught my eye, BonChon Chicken. One of the waiter were offering free sample of their chicken just outside their outlet. BonChon is a South Korean fried chicken brand that has opened several branch in Dubai, Singapore, US, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia. Currently, they have two outlets here in Jakarta, in Grand Indonesia and Living World – Alam Sutera. The look of their outlet has an urban feel and dominated with wood panel and sketch of the city on the wall. The restaurant is designed by adopting fast food restaurant mechanism, although we still have to wait for several minutes for the meal to be ready. The menus offered were ranging from BonChon chicken, BonChon fish, Bulgogi, and Mochi.

BonChon use frying technique that claims to be different from other chicken restaurant, so it would create a juicy and tender chicken meat with crispy, crunchy skin and almost transparent crust. The chicken will be coated with your chosen of sauce: original (salty sweet soy garlic sauce) or spicy. That afternoon, I chose their chicken meal menu which consist the choice of chicken accompanied with rice and drink. We can choose from chicken wings, thigh, drumstick, and strips…and I chose drumstick (in this meal, I got 2 drumsticks, yeaaayy) coated in spicy sauce (29,5k).

For me, the spicy sauce were mild, you won’t be sweating by eating the chicken :) The skin was crunchy, although not as crunchy as other chicken fast food joint out there because BonChon use special sauce to coat the chicken so the chicken will be a bit damp. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the meat was tender and juicy. Although unfortunately, once I ate the chicken meat I can’t taste that special sauce which I’ve tasted when I ate the skin. It seems the sauce has not penetrated to the meat thoroughly. So the meat tasted a bit bland.

I spotted some of the customer were ordering Mochi Ice Cream, some short of mochis with vanilla ice cream filling (10k). It looks nice, maybe next time I’ll try to order some of that.
