In order to celebrate my birthday yesterday, hubby took me for a dinner at Pepenero. What is it with Italian restaurant and my hubby? Well…let’s just say, he had a weird unexplainable relationship with Italian food, he always craving for more🙂
PEPeNERO is an Italian restaurant opened in the fall of 2004 in Indonesia with several locations spread around Jakarta and Bali. As stated in their website, they thrive as a simple Italian Trattorian in an effort to emulate the best of the great Italian tradition of hospitality and quality at the table and in the glass. PEPeNERO served a variety of Italian specialties ranging from pasta, pizza, and steak. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was somewhat dimly lit packed with comfy couch and chair as if to create an intimate and romantic ambiance.
As we were looking through the menu, they gave us a warm basket of bread along with tomato bruschetta as a complimentary. The bruschetta was a bit crunchy along the edge but a bit chewy in the middle. The tomato cube on top gave a fresh sensation while eating it. You could ask the waiter for butter and balsamic vinegar to go along with the bread. As for the drinks, we ordered Orange Juice (25k) and Ice Lemon tea (19k).
For the starter, I ordered Zuppa di Funghi – mushroom cream soup (45k). Rich and creamy, a great way to start your meal.
The next thing in our mind was pizza, had to order the pizza. We ordered Quatro Formaggi Rucola – Thin crust Italian pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, mixed four cheeses, and fresh rocket salad (47k). OMG…the pizza was to die for…extremely delicious. They were very generous with the cheese. However, the rocket salad on top tasted a bit bitter, so we decided to put it aside so that it wouldn’t ruin our taste buds ;p
Risotto Zucca Con Crema di Gorgonzola – Homemade pumpkin risotto served with creamy Italian gorgonzola (54k). The portion quite big, we were worried that we could not finish it (yet it turns out that we were wrong🙂 ). The risotto was perfectly cooked, and it blends well with the pumpkin puree. The melted gorgonzola made it more savory, nice.
Unfortunately, we were too full to continue with desserts. As mouth watering as the desserts were, we simply gave up. Maybe next time then… However, at the end of our meal, we were presented with complimentary chocolate milk with vodka served in a small glass. Too bad we couldn’t taste it as it contains liquor :( so we just leave it there on the table.
Overall, we were very impressed with the place. The foods are excellent, prompt service, nice ambiance. This restaurant is definitely worth a try, and for sure we would plan for another visit🙂
